2024 Rescue Stories

Pickles and Olive were 2 dogs rescued from poor living conditions. Pickles was locked in a garage with feces and urine and was severely underweight. Both Olive and Pickles had skin issues due to fleas and lack of nutrition.  Olive is currently still available for adoption at ICHS! Pickles was adopted and is living her best life!

Chewy & Han were abandoned along with 3 other dogs! They had severely matted fur soaked in feces and urine, extremely overgrown nails and were very underweight and malnourished. It took only a short amount of time for us to earn the trust of these dogs. They received many baths and even went to the groomers (Kanine Design) for a much-needed professional hair cut! They have since been adopted and are doing well!

Hank had been abandoned by his owner during a festival this year, with his actual owner claiming he was a stray. Hank had only been with this family for 4 days before they decided he “drooled too much” and that they didn’t want him. Before that, Hank was passed along from 3 other families in Maryland because he was “too big”. Hank had a severe ear infection that was painful and impaired his hearing but now he is healthy and happy. Hank is a true gentle giant and loves being around people. He is still available for adoption at the shelter!

We also want to highlight a great rescue that you may have heard about – our sweet boy Ajax was rescued in January 2024! Local police reached out to ICHS to see if we could assist with the situation, and we had the resources available and were able to help rescue this beautiful German Shepard. We found Ajax tied out on a short lead in freezing temps with no food or water. He was very underweight, malnourished, had overgrown nails and had almost no fur left due to severe mange. As with many animals that come to ICHS, he required lots of veterinary attention and tons of care and love from our staff.  Ajax is now healthy and has been available for adoption since July – he was even our feature shelter pet at our Cause for Paws event in September!
